I've uploaded a test version of the Online Scots Dictionary on to  the web
at http://www.reiki-online.de/dictionary/

Remember its just a test version so DO NOT link to it. It won't be there
for long. I'm am currently doing some work for that company and am only
taking advantage of their server. I'm looking for a permanent home.

It functions like a serch engine. You type in a Scots word or phrase and a
rough English translationed is returned. You'll see how it works when you
read the instructions.

At the moment there are two serch results versions. I'm interested in
finding out what people find most useful and sensible. One only returns a
'standard' spelling and if the input is the same as a dialect spelling that
as well. The other returns all dialect spellings which may be of relevance.
Some words have two variants because they are used across dialect bounaries
(if such things exist!)  e.g boak and bowk clood and clud etc.  <ee> for NE
<ui> and <..ane>aren't included because the dialect variation is regular
the  'standard' spelling needn't be changed. Similary with NE <f> for <wh>.
Although you may input such spellings.

Because I controll the technology I have declared myself 'spelling
dictator' ;-). Let me know which problems or hitchres you come across and
what kind of search result (presentation)  you find most useful. Remember
the dictionary is only as good as the database behind it. If anyone is
interested in helping out send me an email. At the moment there are some
four thousand entries. Its a good job I had them in an excell table. I have
collected them over the years for my own use. I am now in the processs of
adding a Burns glossary complete with apostrophies.
