I don't know about Kinchie, but I think that Rothes may have
become "Glenrothes" to avoid confusion with the other Rothes, in
north-east Scotland.

I suspect that this is how the two places named Kilbride acquired
their current names of East Kilbride and West Kilbride. They may
sound like different sides of the same community, but they're miles
apart and in different counties.
