Well, Frisian has some strange word"s for father", indeed. BTW, the
word _heit_ is pronounced more as English "hite", if this were a
word.., at least in Standard West Frisian. This seems to be a
children's word, indeed not derived from Old Germanic *fathar, or Old
Frisian _fether_ (only in the Hindeloopen dialect the word _fear_ is
derived from this stem). Another form from the island dialects is
_tae_ from Terschelling/Skylge, also a Lallwort, similar to North
Frisian _taate_ and so on.  As to _heit_, some make a connection to
Old Germanic *haitan, to command, but this is unlikely (this would
have been "hiet" in Modern west Frisian.
