Interesting question this, primarily because the English of South East
England has gone through profound changes. If you go back to Old English
though, the connection with Frisian and Jutish is clear (also the link with
Saxon dialects spoken in the north of the Netherlands: Gronings and Ost
Friesisch for instance) . My guess would be that in terms of dialects,
Scots would be a direct connection. In that case, the dialects spoken on
the Friesian islands is more closely related (Terschellings, Aasters etc.)
It seems that a lot of the phonetic changes that were part of mainland
Frisian's development, have passed by the islands. Many contractions and a
lot of assimilation present in Frisian are absent from the island dialects,
making those dialects more likely candidates for such a comparison.
As for sound files: not sure where to get these, but the Fryske Akademie
might be a good starting point.
