Or a 'gecky nerd', in my case, perhaps!

I must say I am slowly learning not to expect absolute
reality from such things.

Of course, those of us in the UK with familiarity with
the United States are always somewhat bemused in the
first instance by reference to a 'British accent'.

There is also the tendency to imitate an accent to
what you believe you *should* hear rather than what
you *do* hear. I remember one American imitating mine
and coming out with perfect Southern English (which,
to be fair, is quite an achievement) - in reality, in
accent terms, mine was probably no nearer Southern
English than his!
