Hi, Everyone!
Does anyone here know a music group called "Puirt a Baroque"? Just got a
CD
by them as a present from Canada. It's called "Bach Meets Cape Breton".
It's
a very interesting mixture of traditional Scots/Cape Breton folk music,
baroque Scots/Cape Breton music and baroque "serious" music. They play
in a
way that brings out the deep roots that these three styles have in
common.
On the recording they play baroque, modern and folk instruments, that
mix
incredibly well together. Being a baroque musician myself I can only
recommend this CD, though it helps if you're really into Scottish
fiddle. It
comes from a Canadian company called Marquis Classics, that seems to
specialize in Cape Breton musical traditions.
