Wad ye no say [Toxt?]?

The /x/ phoneme haes been juist aboot tint in my dialect o Shetlandic
afore /t/ in words like _micht_, _strecht_, _tocht_, but no in anes like
_trauchle_, _loch_, etc. In awfu deleeberate speech thare is a slight
soond, but it soonds mair like pre-aspiration - like [h] or mibbie [C] -
nor like [x].

Coorse, the /x/ phoneme is bein tint in Scots. Youngers frae the Glesca
area canna say it (ye want ti hear thaim tryin ti say 'Loch Oich').
Coorse, ye coud threip at youngers frae Glesca disna speak Scots
oniewey, but that wad be anathema ti aa thae 'lounge linguists' I girn
aboot, at thair careers hings on regairdin aathing spocken North o the
border as Scots - speecially SSE, cause that's aa maist o thaim can
speak.

John M. Tait.
