Liewe vriende in, om en buite die laaglande

Ek vind hierdie webwerf geweldig interessant, maar wonder net so by
myself waar die Afrikaanse bydraes
is.  Soms staan ek terug omdat ek soos 'n proleet voel wat sopas die
alfabet vir die eerste keer teëgekom
het, wanneer ek sekere van die bydraes lees, maar almal is geweldig
leersaam.

Ek en my vrou woon in Engelland.  'n Paar dae na my aankoms kom ek die
woord "dear" tee, wat ek toe later
uitvind hier duur beteken.  Ek het hierdie woord slegs geken met die
konnetasie "my dear" oftewel my liefling
in Afrikaans.  Tog vind 'n mens dit ook in die Romaanse tale soos
Italiaans.  "Caro/cara" beteken liefling
asook duur.  My vraag is nou net dit: Is die Afrikaanse woord duur dalk
afkomstig van Engels?  Of kom
hierdie woord dalk uit Nederlands of een van die ander tale van die
Laaglande?
