Maybe that's why, after 25 years, people tell me I still speak English with
a Dutch accent, although my Dutch nowadays also seems to have an English
accent, so they say...
(When I first lived in the UK I didn't want to take elocution lessons to
adopt a 'perfect English' accent - as someone suggested.  Didn't seem the
need for it, still don't.)
