Subject: Morphology

Esteemed Lowlanders!

Ívison says:

'I would like to Know what were the determiners like in Old Dutch. I Know
where the form HET comes from, but I would like to Know the ancient forms
and their declension. Thank you very much.'

In Middle Dutch there were three genders`, and they were declined as
follows:

                    MASCULINE SINGULAR MASCULINE PLURAL
NOMINATIVE die die
ACCUSATIVE dien die
GENITIVE des der

                   FEMININE SINGULAR FEMININE PLURAL
NOMINATIVE die die
ACCUSATIVE die die
GENITIVE der der
DATIVE der
dien

                   NEUTER SINGULAR NEUTER PLURAL
NOMINATIVE dat die
ACCUSATIVE dat die
GENITIVE des der
DATIVE dien

I am not sure of the Old Dutch forms, but I am sure that they would not have
been very different.

John Duckworth
