Mönsterländisch Platt: De dreikleurigen (fr. couleur = farv ) Maikatten
döcht nix. De fangt kiene Müse.
Dutch: Wij houden niets van driekleurige (mai) katten. Deze zijn niet te
gebruiken.
Sayings in Low German and Dutch:

Dear Lowlanders,

As to the origin of the French word 'cerf volant', I remember
now that the term originally described the insect called
'lucane' (Lat. lucanus cervus, the word lucanus also referring
to daybreak, the moment of day when they soar up the most visibly),
the biggest of the European coleoptera.

The comparison with the antlers of a deer is undoubtedly due to the
fact that this most charming insect seems to have 'horns' on its
head, which are actually its oversize mandibles.
