Toen ik een aantal jaren geleden in Gelderland de weg vroeg, kreeg ik een
antwoord in het plaatselijk dialect, gevolgd door 'daar heb je niet van veel
van verstaan, hé' en een knipoog. Ik zei van wel, maar hij wou me niet
geloven, tot ik in standaard- Nederlands kon parafraseren wat hij net had
gezegd, wat hem erg verbaasde. Wat mij dan weer erg verbaasde was dat mijn
vrouw er helemaal niks van had verstaan, hoewel zij in een Noordlimburgs
dialect was opgevoed (ik in zuidlimburgs AN) en beter Duits kon dan ik.
Vreemd he?
