Hoi Ingmar,

Leuk dat je zo enthousiast bent over het anniversary-idee!

Ik denk echter dat dat niet zal gaan. Ik woon in Zeeland, dat is dus wel
een héél end rijden.

Helaas heb ik ook geen ervaring/mogelijkheden om cassettebandjes op de
computer op te nemen, dus als je zelf het geluid op met computer zou
kunnen opnemen, zou dat fantastisch zijn. Ik kan er dan wel een
internet-versie van maken. Heb je een microfoon op je computer? Als je
dat hebt, zou het mogelijk moeten zijn om geluiden op te nemen...

Oops, I think I'd have to clarify a bit: the story about the north wind
and the sun is known throughout the world, that's why it has been used by
the IPA-people to show differences languages and pronounciations.

I think the advantage of using that story is, that it is (1) also of use
for international scolars and (2) it is very short.

Folks,

Unfortunately, I have received only *four* votes so far regarding the choice
of stories, and the result is a tie ...  :-(  Come on!!!  That's lame!  You
can do better than that.  Or do only four of you care?  (If I were in my
crass Australian slang mode I'd say "Pull your finger(s) out!" meaning
something like "Snap to it!" or "Get your rear(s) into gear!" in American
slang.)

Lowlands-L will celebrate its tenth anniversary in late April of 2005, and
we a planning an activity to mark or celebrate the event.  The general
suggestion is to create a clickable map with links to dialect/language
version of a story with an accompanying sound version for each or most of
them.  One of the stories being considered the a Lowlands Saxon (Low German)
folktale, "The Wren," of which I have numerous version at this site:

I suppose we'd revamp it if we end up choosing it.  Mathieu's alternative is
the "North Wind and the Sun" story, of which there is a Norwegian-centered

Yeah, Mathieu.  We'll have to come to a decision regarding the choice of
stories.  I would go with either story.  Why don't we do a quick vote?  In
order to open it up to all subscribers without giving away the identity of
those who prefer to be unknown lurkers, I suggest that everyone willing to
vote send a message to the administrative address
<lowlands-l at lowlands-l.net> with only "STORY CHOICE" in the subject line
(which allows me to route them to a special folder).  In the text please
indicate which of the stories you prefer:
