Hi Ron

About (pre)aspiration: two days or so ago I sent a messages about a West
Flemish phonologic phenomenon, which reminded me of preaspiration etc.,
but I didn't see it at the list yet, that is: in the archives.
Did you get it?
It was about West Flemish k-insertion in words with have final t or d in
Dutch. WF oekt [ukt] = Dutch oud, "old", WF koekt [kukt] = D. koud, "cold"
etc etc. and if this could be derived from aspiration too.

Ingmar

Thanks, Ingmar.

Sorry, I did not get your previous submission, as I told you privately.

The process you described above is new to me, apparently a case of
assimilation to stops ([+cont] -> [-cont] / __ [-cont]#).  Fascinating!  In
the case of Dutch and Afrikaans /...lC/ > /...UC/ (as in _old_ -> _oud_), on
the other hand, assimilation to vowels may have been involved at one time.

Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
