Subject: LL-L "Tradition" 2005.07.25 (03) [E/LS]

"We also have the tradition of "fell versuupen" (drink somebody's skin off)
in the district of Rendsborg and for some this might be an embarrassing idea
but I know that quite a few Asian countries have similar traditions where a
funeral is rather a feast to eat and drink. ..."

Helge and all, this story reminds me of something that one of my teachers
told me. He said that he once hosted a Czech exchange student. When he took
him to a funeral, the student lamented about how everything was all black
and gloomy. "Where's the party?" In then Czechoslovakia, the funeral
celebrates the deceased. It does not lament the death.
