Dankie, liewe Mark. Dis *my* plesier. Ek is baie lief vir Afrikaanse
letterkunde.

Hier onder is my Afrikaans lieflingsgedig met my Engelse vertaling (poging).

Groete,
Reinhard/Ron

   Die ossewa

   Die osse stap aan deur die stowwe,
   geduldig, gedienstig, gedwee;
   die jukke, al drukkend hun skowwe -
   hul dra dit getroos en tevree.

   En stille, al stuiwend en stampend,
   kom stadig die wa agterna -
   die dowwe rooi stowwe, al dampend,
   tersy op die windjie gedra.

   Die middagson brand op die koppe,
   gebuk in hul beurende krag;
   hul swaai heen en weer in die stroppe -
   en ver is die tog van die dag.

   Dit kraak deur die brekende brokke:
   die opdraans is ver en is swaar;

   The Oxcart

   The oxen, through dust among boulders
   Step onward, keen, meek, diffident.
   The yokes bearing down on their shoulders,
   They bear them with patience, content.

   And calmly, through dust clouds and clatter,
   The cart follows, dragging behind.
   The vapid, red dust puffs all scatter,
   Fly off with the breeze, intertwined.

   The midday sun's blaze hits each skull
   Bowed low under hard effort's sway,
   Swaying back and forth, drudging and dull,
   And long is the distance today.

   The breaking dirt clods go on creaking.
   The haul has a hard route till late.
   Their limbs keep on groaning and squeaking,
   Yet they bear it, deliver the freight.

   Thus, mute till his hour of dying,
   Is each one a hero of toil.
   Strewn across the vast veld are lying
   Abandoned his bones on dry soil.
