Hi Ingmar and all,
this beloved custom is spread pretty much over whole Lowlands aerea in
Germany as well, from Flensburg to Göttingen, from Dutch border to
Vorpommern. In some parts e.g. East Westphalia and Harz they have
additionally the custom to roll burning Easter wheels - prepared with
straw or dry branches - down a local hill.
Usually the entire community celebrates those events: burning away the
winter and welcome the spring. Other parts in Germany have similar customs.

Happy Easter holiday(s) to everybody who is due to this custom !

Hello all lowlanders, A very happy Easter to you.

Ingmar describes the Easter bonfires in the Eastern part of the
Netherlands.

Ingmar, it is as if you opened my grandmother’s "provisiekast" (larder).
The door opens and the memories come wafting out. This grand old smell,
a mix of bacon, citron, coffee and spices, it is perfume for the soul. I
too stood in the circle around many a "Paasvuur". The strongest memory
is about my grandfather’s old straw hat, which was put on top of the
fire every year. And then there was the Easter dinner with
"Backhänderln" (Young roosters baked in the oven).

Thanks Ingmar, you made my day. Jacqueline
