I tried to translate the Old Dutch text into Modern Dutch. Maybe not the
Modern Dutch of 2005, though, that would be different in style and words
choice, but still one of the registers of Modern Dutch literature.

I would call it Middle Dutch, not Old Dutch.  Timewise, this would be 
consistent with Middle Saxon, Middle English and Middle ("High") German as 
well as with listings in etymological sources.  (The _Oxford English 
Dictionary_ consistently refers to Dutch words of that age as "Middle 
Dutch."  You might even go as far as saying that this particular one 
(written not long before the Age of Enlightenment and at the early stage of 
the Dutch economic boom) is "Late Middle Dutch," leading over to "Early 
Modern Dutch."  As you can see, it isn't all that different from 
archaic-style Modern Dutch.

As I mentioned earlier, we may not (so far?) have any written evidence of 
Old Dutch (or better to say Old Hollandic), probably because those dialects 
were "insignificant," were not "literate" at the time of written Old 
Franconian (which some have claimed was based on varieties farther to the 
southeast, with many a sign of Old Limburgish admixture).  However, this 
does not mean that Old Dutch did not exist in spoken forms.  So, even though 
literature of this sort may seem pretty much in the oldest Dutch you know, 
it ain't no "Old Dutch," and it is contemporaneous with what I would call 
"Middle Flemish" to the south, of which we have a wealth of literature.

Although we must assume that the written Dutch of the period (roughly 
1200-1650), like Middle Flemish and also Middle Saxon, were pretty far 
removed from their respective "Old" ancestors, similarities between them 
were still numerous and great enough to make for easy comprehension between 
them, at least as far as reading comprehension is concerned.  Even from a 
Modern Dutch, Flemish and Low Saxon point of view it isn't very difficult 
(if you can handle the spelling).
