Reading old LL-L mailings I somehow never got around to at the time (there
are, I'm sorry to say, a lot of them), and came across:

Reminds me of my youth! I have never had a "hot toddy" (just hot Kukhri
rum), but in Siraha (S Nepal) and neighboring jankpur we NEVER would have
considered using ताड़ी in mixed drinks . Straight! The only way to go! And
the tree was in the front yard!

(And on a lingustic note, in Nepali, and the local Maithili, all medial ड़'s
are rhotasized, and so it is: TaaRi (retroflexed "R", and in Nepali at
least, no phonemic vowel length - although there is orthographic length.)
