My opinion about this is that this warrants a request for a more detailed
explanation of the research and its goals with a co-signature from faculty
of the
school where they are. That way we know it is a bonafide request and can be
a
startingpoint.

In addition, there needs to be some mutual understanding how identifying
information of membership gets used. We're an open rather loose organization
which
is really nice for us participating in itin a rather spontaneious way on a
day to day level, but that doesn;t mean that anyone should be using any of
the
materials or list serv activity ( which is archived with names and
everything)
for their goals.

In other organizations where I belong to a list serv ( which is all related
to my profession in mental health, ) the list serv is only accessible
through
professional membership,so not open to the public at large. There also is a
rule in those listservs that information does not get shared with outsiders.

Having said all of that, I think we should take this at a positive level and
ask for a more formal request and then for us to set some of the boundaries
on
what can be published and what not. I for one, do not wish to have anyone
outside this group have access to some the personal information, either my
e-mail
address or where I live or some of the more personal parts of my comments go
into a documentary, unless clearly agreed upon ahead of time.

>>From an academic viewpoint, I certainly think it is reasonable to ask for a
more sophisticated proposal, and for us as a group to have control over a
larger portion of the information.

I am almost certain that they do not mean us... unfortunately.
The are students Cultureel Maatschappelijke Vorming (CMV) and I guess they
thought to be dealing with the Lowlands Cultural/Music/Theater Festival,
which is very famous in the Netherlands and surroundings, and very popular
among youngsters and students.
I wouldn't know why they'd be interested in the organization of the
Lowlands-List... Pretty stupid mistake, of course, when they'd bother to
take a look at this site they would have seen they were at the wrong
address. But, you'll never know.

Thanks a lot, Roeliena and Ingmar. This helps a lot.

I'm contacting the originator. I wonder if that's the last we'll hear of
it.

Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
