Does that mean that the origin of the name of the loerie-bird species found
in South Africa relates to the
name of the loarie tree in Europe?

Beste Lowlanders, beste soortgenoten,
Met veel aandacht heb ik de lijst West-Vlaamse woorden voor de "lork" van
Luc Vanbrabant bekeken. Het Oostends ontbreekt nochtans. Uit de mond van
schrijnwerkers en boomkenners heb ik destijds kunnen noteren: "loarie" of
"larie". Daarbij nog dit: "blowe loarie" is de Japanse lork; "witte loarie"
hetzelfde als "loarie". De twee staan naast elkaar zoals "betoaln" en
"betaaln" (West-Oostends, Mariakerks).
Verder dit: "der" is ook het Oud-Gallisch (Gaulois) voor eik; vgl. Welsh.

Inderdaad, in het Welsh is het _derw_ of _derwen_. In Q-Keltisch vind je _darag_
en _darach_  (Schots Gaelisch). Vergelijk verder het meer in midden Frankrijk,
het  "Lac du Dèr Chantecoq", dat naar de eiken is vernoemd. Mooi, dat
herinneringen aan de oude tijd nog zó voortleven in dergelijke toponiemen. Om nog
maar van de spirituele betekenis van de eik in die tijd te zwijgen.

Waar ik al geruime tijd naar benieuwd ben is de herkomst van het Franse woord
voor "eik", dat _ch^ene_ is, en dat afkomstig is van een Vulgair Latijn woord
_cassanus_, dat weer van een Gallisch woord afkomstig is. Welk Gallisch woord zou
dat zijn? En wat betekent het?

De meeste Romaanse dialecten hebben woorden die van de Latijnse woorden _quercus_
 en _robur_ afstammen.
