Hi Elsie, everyone,

My mother living in Drenthe the Netheralnds used a "stoof"= the wooden box
with one side open en holes in the upperside. Inside there was a
"test"(pottery) In the test they put few red-hot coal, directly from the
oven.
As far as I know it is a Drents(low saxon) word. I never red nor heard it in
Dutch. Further origin of the word I do not know. About a year ago we
mentioned it also on this list.
