Very well then. So the poor, often maligned esquire does know the
difference, Heather dearest (and you wouldn't have dared to accuse the
Kahuna thusly, for fragrant appalations can be taken more easily than they
can be bestowed).  But ... I say you inadvertently opened yet another
container of creepy-crawlies in that, seen from this most humble perspective
at least, the difference atween the twain has long begun to be blurred.

A "typo," as far as I know, is by origin not a "typing mistake" (although
this would be logical) but a "typing error" -- or so I humply submit while
bracing myself for another volley from the schoolmasters' and -mistresses'
corner of the room.

Language learners regularly make "mistakes" before they understand the
rules.  Should those not also qualify as "errors"?
