Do you linguistically minded guys mean _homophone_, rather? ;)

Isn't it that:
homophones sound the same but are spellt/spelled differently and have
different meanings
e.g. bow to the Queen bough of a tree
homographs are written the same, may sound the same or differently and have
different meanings
e.g. bow to the Queen bow of a ship violin bow bow tie

homonyms cover both of these ??????

Amazing what a small second of inattention can spark off on a forum!

 Kevin, Isaac and all,

I don't know if this is just personal idiosyncrasy, but I pronounce them
differently when I'm stressing them; 'forward' receives equal stress on each
syllable,
or possibly slightly more on the initial, where 'foreword' is stressed on
the ultimate. In relaxed speech, though, they are certainly homophones.
I tend to lengthen the final syllable of foreword whereas I don't lengthen
it for forward. It's like two words for forword, and one for forward.
