Compliments to you too, Ron!

Whilst certainly not disagreeing, I have a lot of essays to mark, so I
thought I'd have a go at translating the stanza as well. I've been a bit
more liberal and completely ridden rough-shod over rhythm and meter and
gone for feel, meaning and sentiment.

A gentle heart beats inside
This healthy brute of a man
With sky blue eyes horizon-tied,
And shoulders broad and tanned,

He ties us to a world long gone:
Ours as much as his own man.
He's a past you can still depend upon -
The farmer on his land.

And because I wasn't satisfied with that effort, and you gave such sage
advice about haiku, I thought I have a crack at that as well.

Having reaped, the farmer
Watches seeds fall towards spring
As he scatters them.

You were right about it being hard - but it's more fun than marking essays!
