Ron, Henno…. Looking at this string I wondered: from which era date the
Germanic Verbs with particle prefixes? Modern Dutch "herkennen" (to
recognize a person, object, sound or situation) is in effect the same thing
as cupping your ear towards the wind and listening attentively whether you
recognize that sound (heorcian). Luisteren would be to listen to something
you had not heard before. And what came first luisteren or fluisteren?
