A propos of nothing related to any string right now, this link appeared on
another forum I am member of

I'll probably find that you all know it already ( and probably wrote it!)

I have downloaded it but not had time to read it yet but I thought you would
all like to know

best wishes

Heather

There's an interesting read in the form of a PDF file
entitled "How German is American" downloadable from

http://mki.wisc.edu/HGIA/HGIA_booklet.pdf
----------

From: R. F. Hahn <sassisch at yahoo.com>
Subject: Migration

Thanks, Heather.

I checked out the booklet, which is nicely done. There are references to Low
Saxon as well. So there is some relevance to LL-L.

The actual web presentation of the Max Kade Institute is worth checking out
also: http://mki.wisc.edu/ <http://mki.wisc.edu/HGIA/HGIA_booklet.pdf>

I think it's all presented fairly well and is promising. This despite my
wariness regarding institutes that rely heavily on funding from the German
government (or any other government for that matter).

Will there be significant coverage of the work and influence of German
(largely Jewish) refugees during World War II? How will the subject of
(significant) Jewish German immigration in general be handled? Up to now it
tended to get little little more than passing references in official
publications. Admittedly, this is a touchy subject on many levels. However,
I feel the time has come to handle it with some courage outside a purely
Jewish context, even in what boils down to promotional (and thus officially
funded) material. After all, German-speaking Jewish immigration goes way
back to the very beginning of European colonies in the Americas. As far as I
am concerned, those immigrants were German like everyone else, their
religious heritage being another matter.

Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
