I was about to reply to  Mark's mention re a maid that is makeless

macula Latin = spot   so spotless = immacula  >> Eng immaculate

What is interesting about 'makeless 'is that the Latin 'macula/make' seems
to have been taken over directly into Early English and had the Germanic
ending los/less added to it.............. unless of course there was a
cognate in OHGerman or Early English that the OED knows nothing about

Hallo, liebe Freunde,

heute habe ich mir einen Flachbildschirm gekauft und der ist "makellos". Der
bisherige Monitor (mit Röhren) war schon fast eine Mumie; ihr könnt mir
gratulieren.

*Makel *"Schandfleck; Fehler": Das seit *mhd. *Zeit zunächst auch in der
konkreten Bed.
"Fleck" bezeugte Substantiv (*mhd. *makel) ist aus *lat. *macula "Fleck,
Mal; Schandfleck" entlehnt. - Dazu: *makellos *"ohne Fehl, ohne Tadel" (18
Jh.). Vgl. auch *Makulatur *"beim Druck schadhaft gewordene und fehlerhafte
Bogen; Fehldruck; Altpapier", auch die *ugs. *Wendung 'Makulatur reden'
"Unsinn, dummes Zeug reden": Das Wort der Druckersprache wurde Anfang des
16. Jh.s aus *mlat. *maculatura "beflecktes, schadhaftes Stück" entlehnt (zu
*lat. *maculare "fleckig machen, besudeln"; vgl.*  Makel).*
*makellos Syn.* fehlerlos, einwandfrei, sauber.
