In this case it could be a loan from Dutch, but 'padde' for 'toad' already
is listed at *Schiller-Lübben* "Mittelnieder*deutsches* Wörterbuch" as well.
It's too bad, that we no longer have got any active member on the list who
is native speaker of EFLS, but I wonder if Westphalian LS perhaps also still
has 'padde'.

But there's more to find: the mushroom DE "Tintling" (*coprinus*), Engl.
'toadstool', colloquially is called 'Krötenstuhl' and '*Paddenstuhl*' as
well.

Een korte reactie op de mails in verband met "kikker"....



In mijn dialect, het Oostends (West-Vlaams), klinkt het:



NL kikker = puud; ain puud, twi puudn.

NL pad - padde; ain padde, twi padn.



Wat betreft "ûltsje". In het oudere Oostends kenden we het woord "uule"
(vlinder), maar thans hoor je voor vlinder "buttersjhuute" of
"buttersjhiete"...

Er is wel een NL-woorde "ulevel" voor snoepje, zure of zoete bol; in het
Oostends is een snoepje "e spékke"...

Verder dit: door "paddock" te lezen dacht ik aan het Oostends "puudok" of
"puddok" en dat bzetekent: maag, buik... Dit woord werd meestal gebruikt
door de Oostendse vissersbevolking.
