When I said "speak well" I was being a little tongue-in-cheek. But I meant
people do not, as a rule, speak in grammatical, well constructed sentences
that follow all the syntax rules of the language. But when you learn a
foreign language formally, that's what you're taught. Which can make the
"real" language very hard to follow.
