The long-awaited New Year will
rush toward us like a big dragon!

(or a Tajik poem?) Luc posted.

Here it is again:

Скоро, скоро всё случится!
Скоро всё произойдёт!
К нам большим драконом мчится
Долгожданный Новый год!
Он несёт на сильных крыльях
Нам здоровье и успех,
Процветание, изобилие,
Много радости для всех!
Но чтоб не спугнуть везение,
И удачно год начать,
Дракона нужно с настроением,
Обязательно встречать!

By the way, Tajik, used extensively in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and
Afghanistan (and in the form of Judeo-Tajik ["Bokhori"] also in Israel and
the USA) is an Iranian Indo-European, specifically Persian, language
closely related to Iranian Farsi.

To shed more light on Luc's reference to Yiddish, it has been postulated
that the German pre-New-Years wish *einen guten Rutsch (ins neue Jahr)* ("a
good slide [into the New Year]") came via Rotwelsch (a historic cant of
marginalized people) from Yiddish *Rosh haShone* (< Hebrew ראש השנה *ro'sh
hashanah* 'head/start of the year' = (Jewish) new year).

So have a good *Rutsch*!
