> I see Trudgill's discussion of this on p. 94 in my copy. I don't see the
identifications Berkshire or Norwich, so is it from your knowledge of these
places in Britain that you are able to pinpoint them or are you looking at
another page? I am so anxious to find the passage I read years ago that
stated that this is the origin of "I sez".

My copy only goes up to page 68 :)

This is "Dialects" by Peter Trudgill, Routledge 1994, ISBN 0 415-09038-5.

Chapter 9 "Present-Tense Verbs".

The declension without the -s endings is stated to be East Anglian and an
accompanying example is stated to be in the Norwich dialect.

The declension with all -s endings is stated to be Berkshire.

Beste Henry,
Ergens halverwege maart hadden we het op dit forum over bakken, bakde,
bakte, baket, e.d. Ergens in die discussie schreef ik: "O, o, o... Dat is
dan niet zo best steld in et Duuts-Neddersassies." enz.
In een reactie daarop met als onderwerp schreef jij op 14-3: "If that be the
case, then my home dialect (West Twente) would be in severe trouble (which
it isn't)."

in severe trouble is?
Mit een vrundelike groet uut Stellingwarf,
Piet Bult
