Dag Dick,
De eerste betekenis van 'brassen' bij ons is (bier) brouwen.
Het komt in het Frans voor. De woordenboeken doen het uit het Latijn komen,
maar ik heb mijn twijfels. De oudste Franse vorm is 'bracer' dat volgens
mij verwijst naar ons 'breken': het breken van de graankorrels om daarmee
te kunnen brouwen.
