The  Economics Education and Research Consortium (EERC)  seeks  a
Program Director for a 2-year assignment (beginning Spring/Summer
1998)  to direct the EERC M.A. Program in Economics in Kyiv,  Uk-
raine.  The program, which began operations in Fall 1996, is  run
in  partnership  with the distinguished "National  University  of
Kyiv-Mohyla Academy"(UKMA). Candidates for the position will need
both substantial academic qualifications and a strong  background
and  interest  in Ukraine or the NIS.  The position is  based  in
Kyiv, Ukraine.

The Program Director is responsible for academic oversight of the
Consortium's economics teaching program in Ukraine as well as for
developing a modest research program.

Duties include:

* recruiting international scholars to teach in Ukraine;
* daily academic management and oversight of teaching operations;
* overseeing and mentoring Ukrainian teaching staff;
* management of the growing research program;
* directing student selection processes
* assessing student performance; and
* actively coordinating and tracking the placement of M.A. gradu-
  ates in doctoral programs abroad.

Other  responsibilities  include strategic planning  for  program
development,  working with the program's  International  Advisory
Board to promote awareness of EERC's program both within  Ukraine
and  abroad, and working with both university administrators  and
EERC  support staff on program fundraising and  outreach  activi-
ties.

To be considered for this position, the successful candidate must
at a minimum possess a Ph.D. in Economics, fluency in written and
spoken English, and a demonstrated record of excellence in teach-
ing and research.  Professional experience in the NIS, an  exten-
sive network of senior contacts in the economics profession,  and
strong leadership skills and proven success in team building  are
desirable; Ukrainian and/or Russian language skills are  strongly
preferred.
