American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS is currently accepting applications for the following fellowship programs:

Title VIII Research Scholar Program: Provides full support for three to nine-month research trips to Russia, Central Asia, the Southern Caucasus, Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova. Fellowships include round-trip international travel, housing, living stipends, visas, insurance, affiliation fees, archive access, research advising, and logistical support in the field. Total value of awards ranges from approximately $8,000 to $25,000. Open to graduate students, post-docs, and faculty. Funded by the U.S. Department of State, Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States. Application deadlines: October 1, 2001 (Spring Program); January 15, 2002 (Summer, Fall and Academic Year Programs).

Title VIII Combined Research and Language Training Program: Provides full support and approximately eight hours per week of advanced language instruction for three to nine months in Russia, Central Asia, the Southern Caucasus, Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova. Fellowships include round-trip international travel, housing, tuition, living stipends, visas, insurance, affiliation fees, archive access, research advising, and logistical support in the field. Open to graduate students, post-docs, and faculty. Total value of awards ranges from approximately $8,000 to $25,000. Funded by the U.S. Department of State, Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States. Application deadlines: October 1, 2001 (Spring Program); January 15, 2002 (Summer, Fall and Academic Year Programs.)

Title VIII Special Initiatives Fellowship: Provides grants of up to $35,000 for field research on policy-relevant topics in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a policy-relevant field, have held an academic research position for a least five years, and have sufficient language-ability to carry out proposed research. Scholars must conduct research for at least four months in the field. Application deadlines: October 1, 2001 (Spring Program); January 15, 2002 (Summer, Fall and Academic Year Programs.)

Title VIII Central Europe Research and Language Study Programs: Provides full support for three to nine months of research and/or language study in east-central Europe. Fellowships include round-trip international travel, housing, living stipends, visas, insurance, tuition, and affiliation fees.  Funded by the U.S. Department of State, Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States. Open to graduate students, post-docs, and faculty. Total value of awards ranges from approximately $8,000 to $25,000. Application deadline: October 1, 2001 (Spring Program); January 15, 2002 (Summer, Fall and Academic Year Programs).

Central Europe Summer Language Program: Offers international airfare, tuition, insurance, and living stipends to graduate students for up to three months of intensive language study at major universities throughout east-central Europe and the Baltic states. Open to students at the MA and Ph.D. level, as well as faculty and post-docs. Total value of awards ranges from $3,000 to $8,000. Funded by the U.S. Department of State, Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States. Application deadline: January 15,  2002.
