Nachalo Book 1?

At West Point, we currently use it over two semesters for the entire
basic year, then move on to Book II for the intermediate year.
Significantly, however, we only get about 55 contact hours in each of
the the first two semesters.

Can any one tell me whether Nachalo Book 1 (second edition) is intended
for one semester or two?

Nachalo 1 is listed at $120.  If both books (1&2)are intended for 1st
year, I figure that requires students to spend $240 for the complete
first-year program. 
Can that possibly be right?
