>> Description of languages and production of teaching materials
>> Tuesday, 22nd August
>> At 13:00–16:00
>> Metsätalo (sali 10)
>> This half-day workshop discusses experiences in the description of languages, their writing, as well as the transfer of language skills and knowledge in different speech communities. Schooling and literacy are changing the world at global scale, while linguistic and cultural diversity can be encouraged by theoretical linguistics, among others. In addition to good analytical linguistic skills, knowledge of socio-linguistic settings and local cultures are required in the production of teaching materials.
>> Therefore, gathering different experts, this workshop asks, what kind of teaching materials should be created in order to languages to survive? What is especially needed for their production in indigenous and minority contexts?
>> The participants are invited to present their own experiences, methods, theories, and samples of their work in the description of languages and production of teaching materials. The event is organised on the occasion of the visit of prof. Sidney Facundes, Arawakan linguist from the Universidade Federal de Pará, Brazil. The staff and students are welcome to the event.
