The New York Daily News (you know, that fabulous paper that canned City Slang/Word Detective Evan Morris and hired out-of-town plagiarist Mike Barnicle of the Boston Globe) is running a series titled "Big Town Chronicles: The Daily News History of Modern New York." The series was introduced with the graphic of a Big Apple--something the Daily News can't cover because that story was never printed.
Today's (21 March 2000) story is the wedding of Irving Berlin and Ellin MacKay, titled: Chapter 39, True Confessions,THE SHIKSA, January 1926. Pg. 25, col. 3:

On the lower East Side, disapproving Jewish tongues were wagging as well. _Shiksa_.

Shiksa? In January 1926? Got any cites, Daily News? I have "shiksa" much later--and with different spelling.
