NARD N' PAT
VISIT THE CITY OF
NEW YORK CITY.
"WELL, KITTY-KAT, OL' PAL. HERE WE ARE IN NOO-YAWK CITY! TH' "BIG
APPLE," AS SOME CALL IT!"
"APPLE SCHMAPPLE! IT'S A CITY OF MORAL CORRUPTION!"

(This wasn't published, either, but as I had told William Safire for his "Big
Apple column," the late Convention & Visitors Bureau President Charles
Gillett deserves credit for re-popularizing the term in 1970-1971. However,
before that, the 1960s jazz musicians had begun to bring "Big Apple" back.
See, also, the "Big Apple" reference in Kurt Vonnegut's SLAUGHTERHOUSE
FIVE--ed.)
