MULL

   Jesse Sheidlower asked me for an earlier "mull" than DARE 1966. I probably have it.  I don't feel like looking through 60 years of AMERICAN COOKERY and TABLE TALK and BETTER HOMES & GARDENS and GOURMET right now, though.
   "Mull" is not in John Edgerton's SOUTHERN COOKING, at least not that I saw in the index.

      _SHRIMP MULL_
5 lbs. raw, peeled shrimp
2 quarts water
2 cans tomatoes
2 cloves garlic, sliced
2 sticks butter
2 tablespoons Worcestershire
1 can tomato soup
1 cup diced white bacon
1 cup chopped onion
1 lemon, sliced
1 bottle catsup
1 cup sherry
1 cup chopped celery
1 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon curry powder
15 drops Tobasco sauce
Cooked rice
   Brown bacon with onion and one stick butter.  Transfer to a pot.  Add all other ingredients except shrimp and 1 stick butter.  Boil for 2 hours; then add raw shrimp; cook gently 1 hour more.  Add one stick of butter and sherry.  Place in tureen; serve over rice.
