IBM's "OS/360" operating system (now known as "MVS"), which was released
sometime in the middle 1960's, used "PARM" as the abbreviation for the word
"parameter".  Therefore well before 1974 there were thousands of IBM programmers who
were used to "parm", although I have no evidence that they were responsible
for the renaming of "veal parameter".
