Dear Mr Popik

Inasmuch as my _Dictionary of Smoky Mountain English_ will
shortly have a second printing, which will permit the inclusion
of corrections and to a limited extent additional citations, I am
writing to request assistance from you. In late May you
circulated to the ADS list the two messages below, with citations
purporting to antedate those in my work. However, I have to date
been unable to ascertain that any of them come from the Smoky
Mountains, the primary area area from which I drew material.
Please tell me what I am overlooking by indicating which
citations attest Smokies usage, and please pass along any further
cites you have found from that area, in the expectation you will
be duly acknowledged.

Sincerely yours

Michael Montgomery

ANGEL BISCUIT

I received in the mail an ADS-related promotion to buy the
DICTIONARY OF SMOKY MOUNTAIN ENGLISH (710 pages, hardcover,
University of Tennessee Press, 2004) by Michael B. Montgomery and
Joseph S. Hall, for $60. It's probably the book of the year.
There are several regional phrases and food terms in the book,
so let's get right to destroying it. "Angel biscuit" is cited
from 1996.
