I suspect "doggin" was originally "dog." The longer phrase is in "From Here to Eternity" (the book, not the movie....)

Yeah. What he said. It has an extended form, "floggin' the doggin."
AFAIK, "doggin" is just a nonsense word used to make the rhyme.
