petard redux

I think I may have admitted to once picturing a petard as a little banner
or pennant flapping from a flagpole, when "hoist on one's own petard" was
under discussion.  Listening tonight to Christopher Leyden"s radio program
, "Open Source," I caught one of the participants (Ron Susskind, I think)
revealing, apparently, a similar misconception.  In referring to Sec'y
Whitman's early dismissal from Interior or EPA he said she was "hung high
on a petard', or words to that effect.
