The snapping pussy is real. There is an audible sound, like a snap, and it
can be painful and threatening to the male. It is doubtless the basis for
the Vagina Dentata motif, wherein fear of castration causes female teeth to
be knocked out, after which vaginal intercourse & procreation can occur.
This is probably what Todd Akin (R) had in mind when he said: “From what I
understand from doctors ... if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has
ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
