Language is bizarre. Some native-speakers of English hear a W as a "hard" L
in some environments, others hear a "hard" L as a W in other environments.
Among the Slavic languages, the historical "hard" L preserved in e.g.
Russian and Czech, has become W in, e.g. Ukrainian and Polish.
