The insect, a mosquito, belongs to genus Anopheles.
There are 4 types of malaria, caused by 4 protozoa of genus Plasmodium:
	P. vivax
	P. malaria
	P. ovale
	P. falciparum

That's probably where the idea of the mosquito as "vivax" came from.
Occasional minor epidemics have occurred from travellers, esp.
servicemen, coming into the US from Asia.  I don't believe there are any
locales in the US where the disease is endemically present now, however.
