more Algonkian etymologies

Henry,

Ah -- interesting questions! I just finished moving from
Pittsburgh to Michigan, and haven't yet unpacked my CJ files,
but as soon as I do (within a few days, I hope) I'll check to
see if there's anything useful to add to your sensible comments
about those words. I should say now, though, that I didn't
figure out all those etymologies myself: with a very few
exceptions (mostly having to do with Salish etyma), I got the
etymologies from secondary sources; sometimes these are authoritative,
but other times they aren't. I did of course exercise my own
judgment where I could -- for instance when the putative source
form was given, so that I could check it for reasonableness, and
also (especially) when competing source forms were given. I must
have been careless in citing my sources for the etymologies in that
paper, huh? Sorry; a bad mistake. (I would've fixed that if I'd
published the paper formally, but even so...)
