FW: La Push, the band, and Seattle Times article

The one minute conversation included in this article was the longest I had
ever heard Chinuk-wawa spoken.  I tried to get what they were saying but
some words or turns of phrase were blurred for me.  Here’s what I got in my
very bad spelling.  I wonder if anyone knows what was said??

T.J.: Qhaada msaiga
B.M.: Tloosh naiga
C.S.: Tloosh
J.W.: Tloosh naiga.  Qhaada maiga?
T.J.: Tloosh, But na dowan???? xhayoo pos monk
J.W.: Gwaansam kaagwa wekna?

B.M.: Ekda aatlge nsaiga monk?
J.W.: Nsaiga maash tanaas.  Tloosh aalda nsaiga monk tloosh Chinok Skool

C.S.: Wek na kamdaks

J.W.: Qhaa nsaiga tege makmak?
B.M.: Tloosh nsaiga kanamaks tladwa kaba xhayash lakart haws.
T.J.: Ogok tloosh pos naiga.  Qhaada msaiga tamdam ogok?

J.W.: Tloosh ???? nsa tlaadwa

T.J.: Ogok lalaang nsaiga wawa alda klasga monk neem ogok chinok wawa.
J.W.: Aankade nsaiga telexham tlasga tloosh kamdaks ogok.
B.M.: Alda nsaiga monk kamdaks ogok.
T.J.: Q’oi aatlge waaxht skogom ogok.
C.S.: Q’oi kaagwa.

Ps I’d love to get a new dictionary or learning materials to learn proper
Grande Ronde spelling and grammar.  Are these materials available?

PS: I am quite surprised, coming on line after a couple days away, to see
no mention on the Chinook list of the MAJOR article by Nancy Bartley, at

from Tuesday's Seattle Times. It was the cover story in the Local News
section (Section B), with prominent color photos. The article seems to me
to do a good job of presenting Grand Ronde Wawa, and has nice photos of
Tony and Sammy and of Jackie at school; however it is marred by the
frequent substitution of "f" for schwa! The article also seems to treat
ASCII Wawa as the standard orthography, witness the sidebar comment that
"[i]n Chinuk-wawa, capital letters are sometimes found in the middle or at
the end of words. Exact pronunciations are sometimes difficult to duplicate
with the English alphabet." (Based on my experience with journalists'
attempts to describe and spell Esperanto for the English-reading public,
though, I think the Times did at least no worse than usual.)

PPS: I'm Cc'ing this to the author because I haven't been able to come up
with a letter to the Editor that I felt okay about sending. Maybe someone
on the list can do so?
