Colin's note reminds me of another way to say 'hell', which is 'kikuli
paya' (the down-below fire). In Thompson Salish of interior BC there are
similar ways of expressing 'hell'. They translate literally as 'down-
below fire' and 'bad place', respectively. The first is a Catholic term,
maybe based on CJ phrasing; the second is Protestant. Make of it what you
will!
